Hi,
the best would be to find out some good Buddhist centre close to where you live and have a look at some of the teachings there. A good thing is probably, in case there are several, to have a look at them all and see what suits you.
A very recommendable book is: What Makes You Not a Buddhist by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse
There are also many things you can find to read on the net, such as:
http://www.dhagpo-kagyu.org/anglais/science-esprit/indexscienceesprit.htm
www.berzinarchives.com

You can also have a look at an egroup at yahoo such as,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/openkagyu/
where you can have dialogues with Buddhists and maybe find more informations in the link-section.
All the best
