Are there any books or authors that talk about the benefits of home-worship; any authors that believe churches and worshiping were not meant to be as they are now?

No, I haven't seen any. You don't need an authority to tell you what is right and wrong and what to do. I can tell you that you don't need a church to practice Christianity. Being religious is in your heart. If you want to read the Bible like they do in a church to your family in your on house, how can anyone find something wrong with that? You don't even need to call yourself some religious adherent, such as a Christian. I think religions are one of the scourges of the planet. Simplicity is the key: good thoughts, good words and good deeds.
