Philosophy: How come nobody tells us about Prophecies BEFORE disaster strikes?

I have watched numerous shows about how "Nostradomas", the "Bible Code", etc, ahve predicted things like 9/11 and stuff, but how come we hear AFTER the disaster?

As far as I'm concerned, a prophecy is useful only when it actually can save lives.
