Should "Philosophy be offered as a subject in our schooling system?

Have you considered how Philosophy was the backbone of a solid education in virtually all human civilisations other than the modern era?Why is this? What is the purpose of offering "History" as a school subject if the prevailing philosophies that directly impacted on the applicable period are not taught or understood, does this not amount to nothing more than "Parrot" education? Further to that, surely there must be room for Philosophy in the education system when considering a great deal of the absolute rubbish that has found a place in the current sylabus, especially in South Africa?

It depends, i personally hate philosophy....why can't you see the tree but for the wood? Or one of my professors favourites the view of the fly (not against the roof) but against the wall....I hated it. I did not like Cicero and Plato's ramblings as for history, I took it until matric, absolute parrot learning, what did all those dates help me any way in my life? I had to take Legal philosophy at University , I found it boring really I think each person should decide for himself and not follow the philosophies of others.

I could not agree with you more. I actually read through my wifes one varsity textbook "Die Mens in Konteks" The systematic investigation of facts and theories of human nature helped me a lot in my daily dealings with other people.Even maths was probably derived from Philosophy, and they should make it a compulsory subject, I would say from around grade 10.
