Philosophy; Traditional versus Modern Ethics Response?

Any ideas from a past philosophy student? (Preferably)

What are ethics? There should be no difference between traditional and modern. If someone is telling you there is a difference, they are selling snake oil. Is it ethical to murder a child today or a thousand years ago? Ethics don't change only man. The person before me connected religion with ethics but they are wrong I know several people who are ethical but not religious. Being a Christian helps.

This is a tricky question as Modern Ethics still employs Traditional ethics as a basis. For instance you cannot reference Rule Utilitarianism without reference to differences of the Act variety.

However, one key difference between modern and traditional ethics is that the modern does not assume the existence of the soul to motivate human behavior.

Humans should act ethically not with respect to a soul but with respect to one another or in reference to their individual religious belief.

The last point is not assumed by modern ethics and is optional.
