What would a philosophy major do?

I'm considering majoring in philosophy. What kind of things would I be doing? What else goes along with being a philosophy major? Thanks!
I think I would like to eventually get and MBA and work in business/economics (my other major in econ). MAYBE, law school.

Most of us armchair-philosophers talk a big game but it amounts to fluff when we are challenged to take action on our thoughts, and I'd challenge most collegiate-majors of philosophy are the same.

1) If you pursue a degree in philosophy; ground what you learn somehow in Reality. In a word Experiment.

2) Question as Socrates would, but don't necesarrily become a cynic, because nothing can be know in itself; transcend both Socrates and the cynics that followed Him.

3) What's your Categorical-Imperative? And how can it benefit me as well as others? Is it ethical to profit from selling Wisdom? Or should we all be dedicating the rest of our lives to,college-grad or no, pro-bono work at http://www.answers.yahoo.com ??? Discern for yourself, what your heart of hearts tell you the real answers are.

4) Purchase Respect with service and not material-things; and money will likely follow in good-time

5) Become in essence a 21st-century Renaissance-Man who not only asks 'Why' but 'Why-Not' and finds a way to do it anyway.

6) Think in principles, not in regurgitated college-lectures. For more on this consider the works of Ayn Rand and her fellow Colleagues but don't stop to worship her too long, for her baton was passed to you to make the next step, not gloat in the ground that supposedly both you conquered.

7) With Service to others as a top-priority you become a humanitarian; that someone may give you there life for. Yet if you demand it through other means, you may die a Martyr, that may extinguish a flame of passion that creates better qualities of life for yourself and others, instead of fanning the flame that does so...We need not of firemen who are doing such extinguishing at this time or ever!

8) Absorb ideas without being absorbed by those very ideas.

9) the former is knowledge waiting to be applied to the reality about you, the latter is where everyone of us before you has fallen short and becomes as disillusioned as our masters and teachers;but you be different, become the next teacher to transcend all teachers not for glory but for all of man.

Well, philosophy is pretty similar to other social sciences. Though what im going to use it for will probably be some type of environmental behaviorist or something.

I think that is an excellent idea, the problem of ethics in business should be a concern and anyone that can produce a system of ethical practices within a large company or corporation will probably not be without a job in the future, or at least I hope that this is case.
Law is a good choice also but I see a need for ethical accountability from those within an organization and I hope that others see this need also.

Good luck.

Kimmi is right. ^^^^

its mainly the piece of paper that you want in the end. you can do whatever you want with a philosophy degree, just like you can with any other BA degree. its really a simple answer. too many people make the mistake of imtimately linking one's major to one's career. lol its really funny.
