What are some islam philosophy and beliefs?

Islam is based on the principle of attaining peace through surrendering to God. We must control our desires so that they don't control us. Violence and all the stereotypes have nothing to do with Islam; I'm Muslim, I think I know my own damn religion better than the media.

Anyway, Islam believes that very human being consists of two origins: clay (matter) and the soul (which God has breathed into us). God molded us from clay (analogy I'm assuming, although more and more this could hint of evolution) and then breathed from Himself a spirit into us. It is because of this that every man yearns to rejoice with God. Yet, contrasting this is the lower desires that have us bound to mundane things. Drinking, clubbing, adultery etc. are all trials but overcoming them for God is ideal.

Prayer is very important so that we can talk to God and if we want God to talk to us we read Quran. Unfortunately I need to do both more! It is the primordial state of human being to long for reunion with their lord. I pray we both meet Him with smiling faces.
