Can you recommend any good philosophy texts?

The most revered description of the basic topics, in simple, short chapters that include what most philosophers have said or written, is the Syntopicon.
The Syntopicon is volumes II and III of the Great Books of the Western World, available in every library. There are 103 topics. The chapters are about 8-12 pages each.

I recently read "Existentialism and Humanism" by Jean Paul Sartre and I loved it. I've read a couple of other similar texts since.

But the problem is, most of them are too hard. I've tried Plato, Schopenhaur, and Kant [among others] - the question is: does anyone know any texts that are "user friendly?"

In saying that, I don't want any "beginners guide" type things, just ones that are easier and less archaic to start off with.
