How to tell from a legit online photography contest and a scam?

How can u tell the difference? I know that those that are scams will want u to pay money for your "amazing" photograph, but how can I tell which ones are scams BEFORE I send in the photographs?

www.picture.com is one of the major scam artists out there and I do not want to fall into that trap again.

I've read the photography entry rules for each contest and I cannot tell if they are a scam or not? Each contest says that you let the company do whatever they want with the photo and the you give all rights to it.
