Info on GCSE Photography Tips?

Hi,
My son is 14 and is a very talented photographer, such that his school have suggested he takes his GCSE 2 years early.

Whilst his photographs are excellent, and his descriptions on why he took a photo the way he did, we are a bit stuck on the comparison to other famous photographers work.

Ones that have been suggested do not appeal to him at all, and many of them appear dead ! - or are black and white or just not inspiring to him.

He is into Nature and wildlife big time, and likes macro.

Advice please on 1) what is expected in a GCSE regarding this starting and ending point thing !! ?? and

2) How is he meant to relate what he does to anyone else, as he is pretty much self taught, but has an amazing eye for things.
