Photography school?

When I finish highschool I really want to take photography in college. Do you think it would be better to take it at an art school or a school thats just for photography?

If you go to a school that is purely for photography it will probably be more of a tech school. Where as if you go to an art school and major in photography you will probably be concentrating more on the fine art side of photography. At an art school you also have the ability to participate in other types of art and experience different and new things that will only help you become a better photographer in the long run

I was thinking about going into the same major and I talked to my photo teacher... I was very good and she kept putting my stuff into art shows, BUT she said art school isn't always the best thing. She was a history major with an art minor. and she just fell into an art job. so you need to think that there aren't that many jobs for artists. (unless you are self employed) I was told to do it on the side... BUT if you do decide to do art... you have to go to an art school. which means you have to major in art in high school to get a good portfolio... this is very hard to do and you aren't guaranteed a school... have a back up plan!

I think either one is fine. Visit different schools and see which campus you are most comfortable with.

I go to the Art Institute of Colorado and I love it. All the photo instructors have experience in the field and are very knowledgable. It's a great school!
