Macro Photography...?

I want to take the extreme close ups but wanted to avoid purchasing the expensive lens for it. I have seen there are magnification filters you can add to a lens. Do those work are they pointless? Should I just bite the bullet and get the lens. Are there less expensive but comparable lenses for a Canon rebel xti. What do you recommend?

look into a Sigma Macro or Tamron. Its alot better to just give in and pay the money then waste your money on junk! good luck!
