How do I get into photography?

I've wanted to pick up photography as a hobby for a long time and I've decided now is the time to learn. My only experience is with taing pictures while out with friends or with family. Where can I start to learn to take better pictures that I could build a collection with them? Ideally I want to learn to photograph scenery first and then move on to other stuff.
