Night Photography?

Please explain your setup of a night shot. I've played around with night shots for a couple years, and gotten great stuff. What do other people do to prepare?

AKpilot has a spectacular aura about
I take a good, sturdy, tripod, and something to weigh it down. I always use a remote shutter release. If it's windy, I'll try and set up something to shield the camera. I also like taking a flashlight, and "painting" certain features with light if it's appropriate for the shot.
