i am recently getting into photography and?

i dont want to be just another idiot with a camera, what are some good practices that will help me develop better composition, and what would help me for better accuracy and timing for sports pictures.

Read, shoot, repeat. You have to know the technical stuff to get your photos looking good, but if you don't have any field time then all you have is a bunch of book smarts.
