Canon EOS 40D: How do I enable Auto Focus in Live View? I am new owner of 40D and new to SLR photography. I am trying to use AF in live view but whenever I push the AF button in Av, Tv, or M modes, AF does not work. My other question is how do I set two Focus points? Is that even possible? I want to focus on subjects eyes when shooting portraits.

Canon EOS 40D: How do I enable Auto Focus in Live View? Congrats my friend. Check you on the side of your lense make sure the switch is toggled on the AF mode not MF.I'm not sure about the 2nd question...I don't think you can...but you can move One focus point...i.e. use the Center focus point then aim focus on the eyes. Reframe your shot and press the button the whole way.

Canon EOS 40D: How do I enable Auto Focus in Live View? 40D does not Auto Focus in Live View, you can only manual focus. If you set Custom Function III-6 to 1. Enable, now if you press the AF button it will turn off Live View, Autofocus, and then Turn Live View back on when focus is achieved. This is the closest you can come to autofocus when using live view. You can only select all Nine and then it selects the best points or you can select 1. It's very good that you want to focus on the subjects eyes when shooting portraits. But you don't need two focus points to do that. For example, set it for only the center focus point. Point your camera at one of the person's eyes and press your shutter button down halfway. This will lock the focus. Now you can recompose your shot while keeping the shutter button pressed halfway. Finish pressing it down. Both eyes should be in focus unless you are using a really shallow depth of field.
