| Webdesginers, can you help me with some good websites ideas? You shouldn't use a black background and white text, its generally bad, dark colors are generally bad, and tend to make people leave fast. If you must, a darkish-brown would be better, intirely black is bad.And you shouldn't use a Flash intro as your front-page, it dosn't matter to have a Flash intro somewhere, but it shouldn't automaticly start playing. Usually the users dosn't care about such intros, and you may lose a lot of visitors who simply click their back button when they see the flash intro. You can on the other hand create a animated logo in flash, with none, or a absolute minimum usage of sounds; since usage of sounds and/or music, which automaticly start playing are some of the most fetal to use, often it makes people instantaneously click their back button.Nothing would be more boring then a "contest", and i can't get why some photographers like them, perhaps because they tend to draw visitors. I find them to be a waste of time, who to say which photo is the best?, define the best! If you finally must, these days anyone can take a picture, therefor it isn't the picture itself which matters; Its what you do with it afterwards. You would obviously need something to keep people ocupied, while on your site. A photo rotation script would be a abselute minimum, you can enhance the inpact, by allowing people to vote for, and comment on the photos when clicking on them. Perhaps even hold a user section, where people will be allowed to post their own photos.I could imagne a frontpage with several photos "rotating". Now you wouldn't want to go crazy with JavaScript, but rotating the photos on a more regular basic, would perhaps draw a few more visitors. For the Forum you would want a photo editing section, since its the final tuch ehich matters the most. And maybe even a section for those rare shots, people playing with their camera's focus Etc. Finally a section for filming, and video editing.I don't think you get around Filming, i find it hard to belive that anyone can actually earn a living from photographing alone, it seam so restricted.Another thing to watch out for, is all this so-called "professionel" equipment, usually its equipment from the 90ties, and belive me, even the old sony betacams, have a hard time competing with the new camcorders you buy today. Despite the low picture quality, they still go for a furtune. Funny enough, a DV-Camera dosn't cost more then around $200+ these days.Even with video, the final tuch matters more, then knowing how to manually set light, gain, or focus. Most editing softwares such as Sony Vegas, or Liquid Edition, can compensate for the differences between the cameras, using gamma correction, color correction etc, but generally it won't even be nessosery with the new sony camcorders. In video editing, croma keying, and usage of transparent pngs can create some pretty neat effests, therefor you may want to hold a section in your forum, for such techniques as well. Not the actual techniques, but a general forum for all these effects would be good. |
