and what does it mean to stretch?

In art, canvas is stretched over a "stretching frame" to make the canvas tight so it can be used. A canvas photo is printed on a special "canvas" textured paper or actual canvas (much more expensive) ... the actual canvas will have to be stretched to frame it. |
