I recently started a photography business and need to be walked through...

...the process of getting my own website. For instance, what is hosting, and will I be able to maintain it myself or will the person who designed it need to do that?

Hosting is how your Web site appears online. Depending on the software you use, you should be able to maintain your own Web site.

Take a look at http://gallery.menalto.com/ which is designed to help photographers display their work.

Then, stop by http://gallery.menalto.com/forum/65 where there are plenty of people who would be willing to set it up for you.

the hub is a data base were all the info comes into. Then you must screen and check info then distribute as needed. You can do mostly all yourself on website unless selling a lot of things plus updating and distributing.

Get a space google website hosts
first one i got was
http://www.siteground.com/
then you need to make an html code.
this can get complicated you can pay someone to do this look in your local phone book for web designers they usualy use "WYSIWYG" software wich is what you see is what you get.

there are a few different program
ADOBE DREAMWEAVER
is a common one. but its pricy alone its about 300 bucks i think but if your a photographer you might have the adobe suite but if not better read a book or pay someone to do it. save it all in one file then upload it to the host you choose most cost money but free ones usualy have adds from the host on them hoped this helped
