35mm film photography - emulsion side?

Hi, which one is the emulsion side on a 35mm film roll? The 'inside' or the 'outside'? The 'back' or the 'front'? I have to describe via email a problem I am having with my SLR camera to a technician and am not sure how to be specific on this one. Regards, Matteo

The emulsion side is the dull, flat side that is grey or green looking.

The shiny side is not the emulsion side.

The emulsion side faces "front" towards the lens. The shiny side is against the back pressure plate.

It reminds me of the smelly side--and the side that changes color when it gets wet (undeveloped film, that is).
