Beginner's Photography Portfolio?

I have an interview for a beginner's photography course next week and they are expecting a portfolio of around ten to fifteen pictures.

Thing is, I have no idea where to start. Is it okay to include pictures from any type of camera and at any size? Should they have a theme or should they all be different? Will I be expected to answer questions about the cameras I used or what the deep meaning is behind the pictures? If I have some really good polaroid shots can I include them too? What should the pictures be of? Should they be presented in an album of some sort?

Keep in mind that this course is pretty much the lowest level I could find and the only requirement is that you passed at least three classes in high school. It's pretty much for beginners so I don't think they'll be looking for anything fancy or professional. Right? They'll only be expecting to see proof that I'm interested in the subject. Right?
