As said above used SLR's can be found pretty much any wear on like and Nikon and Canon have a very large selection. For instance the N series from Nikon is excellent.

You should be able to find a good used 35mm SLR on craigslist in a city near your for under $100 with lens ... just don't be in a hurry.

I recently was able to buy a Nikon N60 with 28-85mm lens for $50.

Well, I use a simple point and click. I've got my trusty Pentax too. Its not the camera, its the photographer. Even a simple disposable will work for you to learn the elements of photography while you save up money.
