Wedding Photography?

Is it necessary to buy parents albums when arranging your wedding photography?

We are planning on having a great photographer at our wedding, but the only package that includes them is $8000, well over our $3000 photography budget.

They do however, offer an add on of "pocket" albums that will be smaller versions of our coffee table style album, and these come at a reasonable price.

Would these be a good idea, or would it be taky to get the smaller ones for them?

I personally, really like the smaller "pocket" albums and would like to have one myself in addition to my full size leather bound book.

Any ideas?

(And, getting a "cheaper" photographer is out of the question, I've been cutting corners with a few other aspects of the wedding, I will not budge on having a GREAT photographer capture the day)
just to clarify.. these "albums" are the traditional.. photos stuck in a book.. they are actually printed on the pages, in scrapbook fashion, with a glossy coat like looking at the pages of coffee table book. The small photo is just like that. We will recieve a traditional proof book as well (to order from), and a CD, but it will be 2 years after the wedding for the CD.
I mean't.. they AREN'T traditional photo albums.. sorry about that.

Where do you live?
Our photographer is wonderful, and we got a package for 3000 and replaced our engagement book with two parent books! They are a little smaller, but will still be great memories! I would suggest buying the pocket album books. The parents will be happy having books either way!

hmmm... I wonder where my parents put the "Parents album" from my wedding almost 20 years ago?? Oh that's right... they asked if I wanted it a few years back since they never really look at it! They faithfully moved it with them 3 or 4 times, each time it stayed in the packing box marked "family photo albums".
I suggest just a nice portrait in an 8x10 frame for them.

My daughter is getting married in October and I would be delighted to have the smaller album. And I would pay for it myself, above the budgeted amount. I bet your parents and the groom's parents would also. If your photographer is giving you the digital prints and I would think he is at $3000, you could let them pick out their favorite photos, print them yourself, and make an album for them yourself after the wedding.

Does the photographer include a CD of all of the pictures from your wedding? Now a days most photographers will include that.
What you might want to do is just take the CD down to Walmart, print the pictures yourself and arrange them in a nice album.
That is what we are going to do. We have one album for us, then we are going to do it ourselves...or perhaps have walmart or target do the album for us. Much cheaper that way...and you can get any size photo's you want and you can include as many photo's as you'd like.

I think the pocket size ones are great! They'll be nice and easy for them to carry around to show people! Also any album you give them will be greatly appreciated. congrats on your wedding!

If the photographer is not including all of the negatives and/or high resolution prints in your package then DON'T HIRE HIM. Why do you have to wait 2 years from the wedding date to get them? Sounds to me like he just wants more chances to price gouge you for even more dough above and beyond his already crazy pricetag.

You can use a photo editing program on your computer to create album pages for your parents. Then, have a print shop like Kinkos print them out and bind them together. You will create an album for 1/4 the price of the ones from the pro

Make up your own parents albums!
You can always give nicer ones 2 years from
now (hopefully you will still be married)!
