Wedding photography?

Would an 18-55mm lens on a digital SLR be sufficient for photographing a wedding?

It is too slow for a dark venue. The Nikon 18-55 is actually a decent kit lens, and will do fine if you have lots of light. If you have the VR version it will gain you maybe another stop. If you had a 50mm f/1.8 for low light you could get decent results provided you know what you're doing. For a professional, no, the 18-55 would be a poor choice to make a living with.

Certainly, yes, because you have a normal lens, the 55mm, seen as the most acurate 1:1 reproduction of the real image (least distortion) and going down to 28mm, within your lens capability to give a nice wide angle (big family) shot. Long lenses are of little use at weddings.

Yes, but if you wanna best result. probably like 50mm prime lens, but you had to move around to get the shot, 18-55 work well, and IS or VR is even better. External Flash is a must in this type of situation.

Perfect ... don't forget to use your external flash to avoid "redeye".

With flash, yes.

Without flash, the lens' small maximum aperture will force the camera to use a high ISO and this may cause excessive digital noise.

A 50mm f1.8 would be preferable in available-light situations.
