What is that reflective thing they use in beach photography to light the model?

When you see footage of a photoshoot on the beach, there's always a guy with a reflective (looks kind of like tin-foil fabric) that is reflecting light at the model for the photographer. What is that prop?

Reflectors are to reflect more light in the shadow area so the images are not to contrasty. Depending on what look the photographer seeks they will use white just as a fill, gold to warm it up and silver to give it a stronger even lighting look.

Its called a "reflector" and is used by film/TV makers and good photographers for many shots. Gold is good for some skintones, silver or white are also used.

Someone is on the thumbs game again - the 2 answers above are spot on!

Reflectors are great bits of kit, you can get some on eBay with variable covers, offering gold, silver, white, black and a translucent screen - all really good for flattering lighting effects and easy to use, perfect for portraiture.
