Going strictly digital for vacation photography?

In mid May there about I'm heading for Chicago for my annual spring vacation. Normally I take my Canon film SLR along with 1-2 digicams, but after looking at some 7-8mp digicams I'm thinking of going strictly digital this year... something I've never done! Do any of you all do such a thing and if so how does it work for you? It would lighten my baggage load this year as well as make it lighter when taking a backpack of items for photography. I'm looking into either a Kodak Z712, a Sony DSC H3/B, or an Olympus SP550 UZ. I'm have been going more for the latter two, with the Sony really catching my attention. I'd appreciate any input for this venture this spring. Thanks.

I am not going to recommend a camera !

I did however find a very interesting You Tube video about going out with digital camera. The advice is practical and sensible and it will probably help you a bit.
