Canon EOS 40D lens help!!! What lens should I buy that can help me with

landscape and macro photography??? I am about to buy my first DSLR and I am new to the whole DSLR system. I have owned a Canon SD630 for about 2 years and I am about to buy a Canon EOS 40D. As i have discovered, there are a zillion lens for DSLR cameras. I am looking into doing macro photography (flowers, insects, etc) and also landscape photography (sunrise and sunset, beaches, fields, etc)...I am on a limited budget and I do not want to buy more than 1 lens...Please suggest a lens that can handle all my needs comfortably. Also, give me some advice on which filters to get for landscape photography...Thanks

Finally, is a DSLR really worth it or should I go for the Finepix S100FS? Please I will appreciate all your answers. Thanks...
