| PHYSICS PROBLEM plaese help!?
The human arm uses a lever principle. If the muscle is attached 6.0 cm from the joint (elbow) and a 2.0 kg ball is held in the hand 36 cm from the joint, what is the vertical force supplied by the muscle?

This is simple torque. First, you need to convert the 2.0 kilograms to weight. 2kg x 9.8m/s/s = 19.6 Newtons. On either end of the lever, you need the same number of Newton-meters. On one end, we have 19.6 Newtons at 0.36m (36cm), which is 7.056Nm. On the other end, we have x Newtons at 0.06m, which is 0.06xNm. Divide both sides by 0.06m, and we get 117.6 Newtons. |
