| Can someone PLEASE explain turbulence to me?? There are no bumps in the air!!!? WEll the big engines help it stay up and turbulance happens when you take off it shakes and when youre i nthe air its msot likely by bad weather |

| Can someone PLEASE explain turbulence to me?? There are no bumps in the air!!!? sure thing. do you know how airplanes fly? when they go fast enough, the wings make them go up in the air. Try this when your driving 60 mph and stick your flat hand out the window. if you tilt your hand up then your hand starts to rise with the wind. if you understood that, also know that wind is not at a constant speed. it speeds up and slows down. when this happens at a fast rate "bumps" or turbulence happens. It's all about the wind. Thats why airplanes cannot fly in space, there's no air up there. (shuttles are different, they use rockets.) |

Like a wave. . . water is flowing in two different directions. Similar to the air. Look at the page it is alot more techinical but the pictures might help. |

There are no bumps in the air!!!? turbulence is when there is alot of wind coming from the other direction. and the wind is strong. the englines help the planes keep up in the sky.. they are VERY strong engines. the wings help balance the plane in the sky. i hope this answered ur questions :] |

About turbulence, there's a pretty good explanation here: http://www.casa.gov.au/airsafe/trip/turbulen.htmAs for falling out of the sky, in a nutshell, air traveling under the wing is faster than air traveling over the wing, that provides lift. Unless a wing (or the wings) break off the plane, it cannot just drop out of the sky. Aircraft are designed in a way that they self-correct themselves. |

Turbulence is caused by a rapid series of air currents going in different directions close together. This usually happens at the edges between air masses of different properties: cooler versus warmer is the usual difference.If you will do an internet search on "turbulence," you will find lots of pictures and diagrams that will help you understand.Good luck! |
