Physics motion in a straight line?

A motor cycle patrolman has his machine staionary with theengine running when a speeding motor car passes him at a speed of 126kmp/h. As the car passes, he sets off after it with a uniform acceleration of 1.4ms^-2 which he maintains until he overtakes it. Calculate the time required for the motor-cycle to overtake the car and the distance travelled in doing this.

Please show all working out as I really dont understand it, thanks.
