Physics -- 3 shoppers at a shopping centre took the lift from the first storey...

...to the fithy storey.? 1. 3 shoppers at a shopping centre took the lift from the first storey to the fithy storey. Each storey has a height of 3.5 m an the 3 shoppers have an average mass of 50 kg.

(a) The tension in the cables of the lift is 2400 N.
Calculate the work done in carrying the three person to the fifth storey.

(b) Claculate the gain in potential energy of the lift at the fith storey. (Mass of lift = 60 kg)

(c) Is you answer in (a) and (b) te same? Explain why.
---------
I'm not sure about the tension in the string. I know I have to multiply the force (weight) by the height, but should the tension be also included in the force such that force = weight of the shoppers + tension in the string?
