Hilary has a spectacular aura about
Why do I find ignorance of poetry running rampant in the poetry section?

I am sure this will stir some controversy, but I have read some of the worst writing of my life being called poetry in the medium. I have also read some really good poetry, and it seems to me that at least half of the adolescent population get on here to ask questions about their schoolwork, and some want someone else to do it for them. I would really like to know just who it is that is teaching our kids it's ok to cheat, and who is telling them that some of the stuff they write is poetry. Just because it is short jerky lines and sounds deep, or dark, or emotional, doesn't make it poetry. I have read some poetry on here, both rhyming and non-rhyming that has been excellent. I have also seen some that made my hair kink up into a knot when I read it. There are a couple on here who are as good as any poet I have ever read. There are many who have no idea what they are doing, and there are many who are still learning and getting better.
I would like those who write diary entries and call it poetry to please explain why they think it is poetry.
jaxx, it's not rude to want to understand
