Trying new type of poetry here...?

I've been suggested free vers so Im trying it.... rate it on a scale of 1-10 if you plz...

Cowering creatures on the florest floor
Hear crashing and breaking of countless homes
One by one their homes do fall
As their lives all crumble

The snapping of twigs
And breaking of branches
The booming crash
As it instantly kills

They were to small
Simply to puny
To escape from the world
Of yester-year

A time when they did not have to fear
Us humans of the earth
And our technologies

?Divine Wind? has a spectacular aura about
Okay so i gave it a 4. (not that its really bad, but its difficult to score highly with me)

Reasons:
I really didn't think it was all that original. I've been told the plight of the animals since I was like 5. I've seen a lot of child literature and the movies that discuss this same thing, and your poem reminds me of most of that.

Specifically, however, I didn't really understand your point in your 3rd verse. I thought the point your trying to project is that the animals can't defend themselves against man, but then your poem says they can't escape from "yester-year." I thought they were safe in the past, but because of man they are no longer safe. If i am reading it wrong, I apologize, but I don't think I'm the only one who would be confused by this.
