If "poetry is the drumbeat of music".....?

...and the heartbeat of poetry is its meter, what is its rhyme?
I've been told that the meter is the melody.

Rhyme is the harmony, the voice that echoes the voice that's singing, but behind, and in a slightly different key.

Only if each sound carries the same beat. Take Blowing in the Wind. When you say it blowing is two beats but when it is sung, it probably is stretched to double. Elton John had his collaborator pen the words first and then he would sit at the piano and compose. Others develop a riff and then start to put words to it. To me the classic poem put to music is American Pie.
