Poetry writting help..?

I have to write a 24 stanza personification poem and need some inspiration or a topic to write about. One idea I had was about a broken piano or guitar. I have to write it based on this poem here.. http://brebru.com/webquests/poem/writeyourownpoem/writeyourownpoem.html

You could write about broken glasses ... how we can't see what is right in front of us ... our eyes being weak and oblivious to the obvious things of life.

The shattered pictures were on the walls
Broken eyeglasses on the table top
Her memory still lingered in the hall
He could see it happening, couldn't make it stop

She told him that she had to make the trip
But he couldn't just allow her to leave
When the last breath from her lungs did slip
He knew his heartache had no reprieve

The angels had come to take her away
'Fore she had been one of them
His heart was shattered on that day
Like the eyeglasses his sight became dim

Not sure this is exactly what you are looking for ....

how about "broken fences"? you can write on the physical of it being broken, never repaired, looking like it had been left in disrepair.
then the abstract of a broken family, or a family torn apart by rivalry in their home town. something like that. you can build on it in that way.
