Ninth grade poetry help? Sonnets?

I'm working on a sonnet for my English class and I need to know if the following verse is in iambic pentameter:

"Oh God," my soul cries out in anguished pain,
"I can not bear the burden of this test.
I need your Spirit to send the healing rain,
For only in your arms do I find rest."

I'm treating the word "Spirit" as one syllable; is that okay? I seperated it up like this:

"Oh God,"/ my soul/ cries out/ in ang/uished pain,
"I can/ not bear/ the bur/den of/ this test.
I need/ your Spirit/ to send/ the heal/ing rain,
For on/ly in/ your arms/ do I/ find rest."

Thanks for all your help!

If you want a iambic pentameter (penta for five), you cannot treat a word that has two syllables as having one syllable just to make it "match".

Moving away from the regular meter is something poets do. Still, for a homework that is supposed to make you think about the strict form of the sonnet, I would suggest you rephrase the line to stick to the rules.

"I long for you to send the healing rain", maybe?
