Help 10 points, poetry analysis!!!! (please read)? Okay i know the poem is a little long, but can you read it and give a brief overview of its meaning. What I picked up is that the poet (Kahlil Gibran) is trying to say that mankind has faced many challenges and came up with solutions but are not learning from the past. is this right? Can someone help me because i have to present this in front of my class!! Can you go to this link PLEASE!! http://www.poetseers.org/the_great_poets/ar/gibran_poems/6/ kisses and hugs to anyone who can help me with this poem, i would appreciate it so much! Some stanzas i don't understand are the 2nd and last "grief-stricken being".

hi, i think what's important to note is the second last stanza Yet, I still possess some inner power With which I struggle to great each day. My mind is filled, but my heart is empty; My body is old, but my heart is an infant. Perhaps in youth my heart will grow, but I Pray to grow old and reach the moment of My return to God. Only then will my heart fill! though this person has run far and wide the material world he has not acquire peace to subside his "grief stricken being" He must look within himself to acquire the peace...and this takes time... (see below) "Yet, I still possess some inner power With which I struggle to great each day." in the second last stanza we see his struggle to find peace. again he sees himself as old and this hinders his progress to inner peace... believes that prayer will help him acheive inner peace... then there is a continuation of the first stanza suggesting that he is still in the same situation and prayer does not help him (because he is still struggling with seeing things in the material world.) (Q. What is it really to be old.. is it a label that people apply on us?? when you are old do you define yourself, your being as old or by what you like to do, what you feel, how you think? you can be old in form but young in heart..how do you get there?? - Questions you may ask yourself). He only becomes grief stricken after he suggests that in changing ones heart, one will achieve inner peace. thus, it can be suggested that to attain inner peace (ie a full heart) one must come to a realization that we are fine as is (that is to be young at heart) Hope this helps

From what I read you have the right idea. Man is seeking the truth from many different people and things that he thinks will give him knowledge. But he finds that all that he thinks he knows is nothing when it comes down to revealing what lies in people's hearts. The grief-stricken being is the soul of man who is despondent over the loss of knowledge.
