What kind of writer/author or name of writer wrote prose or poetry that was? purposefully devoid of any metaphor or analogy -so for eg...when the author writes about a long-distance runner, all he/she is writing about IS the runner, --it doesnt have some bigger meaning (like the race of life) or anything. are there any writers that were renouned to write like that?

Sadly, the only ones that come to mind are Charles Bukowski--and maybe Stephen Crane. The long-distance runner thing makes me think of Alan Sillitoe...but seriously, if you're doing this for some class, you're going to have a tough time trying to get your point across to the usual literary types (who love to find Meaning in literally everything--after all, that's what they're being paid for).

If it's devoid of literary devices, it's not worth reading. Even the trashiest romance novel tends to have some semblance of symbolism, even if it isn't very good. What makes literature literature are things like symbolism, metaphors, motifs... Also, Stephen Crane did NOT write like this. Read "The Wayfarer". There is definite symbolism in it.
