What are your thoughts and opinions on the Gaia hypothesis?

Basically: an ecological hypothesis that proposes that living and nonliving parts of the earth are viewed as a complex interacting system that can be thought of as a single organism.

It certainly sounded well thought through and convincing to me when I read it...
He's not arguing that the earth is in any way a sentient being, simply that an holistic system view of the planet could well have regulatory mechanisms and feedback loops to 'self heal'

as I understand it anyway!

I think it sounded reasonable to me!
