Religion plays a big part of our personal lives, enough to the point that our government comes second to our personal beliefs.Yet, in the USA, unlike many other countries, people have the right to their idea about religion, as long as it doesn't hinder the rights of others to live in peace. Therefore, you can't kill all infidels in the USA because it would be infringing on the rights of others to live who disagree with your religion. Religion is big but the respect for others rights is bigger according to the government.

Because most people are hypocrites and use religion to hide behind there true agendas like suppression, greed, sexism, etc. etc. etc.They are full of it. If people were really religious, they would reach out to others more and stop making assumptions about people and things they are not familiar with.Besides, religion in politics have become more of an elite club for the hypocrites.

No, religion is not playing too large a role, but rather demonizing those people of faith is out in the forefront. Christians are demonized in the leftist press while Muslims are given a pass for barbaric actions (honor killings, honor rapes, et cetera) because we have to understannnnnnnnd their culture.
