Why are some people so hateful about other peoples opinions?

I recently just asked a question about fear mongoring in this section and lots of people answered basically saying "you are stupid". I was trying to ask a serious question and people focused on the wrong part of the question. I guess just because of the fact i said i was thinking about supporting Obama people bashed me. But i have seen it done to other people as well.

so back to my point. Why attack the person instead of actually try to answer the question? Is it because you really don't have an answer and just like you have been taught to do you attack that person and try to make them fear so that they will choose your side?

Fear Mongering is a liberal talking point, that can be used on both sides of the aisle.
Terrorism and the Iraq war is fear mongering.
Global warming and climate change is fear mongering.

People are just mean at times. Since this is a political topic you might be getting bashed ofr your thought. Remember people are prejudice just shake them off and keep on.

Everything bad about American culture is going to show up here, including the racism, the anti-intellectualism, the atavistic, mindless patrtiotism, the genetic propensity toward violence, and the religious fanaticism.

Not too many people actually "thinking" in these forums; most are merely emotional or hysterical responses with very little basis in fact, and very little information.

Also plenty of people posting outright lies in the hope that repeating them often enough makes them sound true.

I think it's cause we are trying to figure out why people don't actually do some research on the guy. He is LACKING experience.
Would you want some one with minimum experience like that running large multi-millionaire company because he can speak good?

For some reason, no matter how innocent the question may be, people feel better about themselves when they're hiding behind a computer while being mean. These are just individuals who have issues of their own.

Because that's what people do when they can't back anything up with facts and figures and forget trying to get them to use any kind of logic. Ignore them, only pay attention to those who want to really answer the question and who want to really participate in a debate.

In other words, it is easy to tell who is having an intellectual discussion when you're going through your answers. Don't pay attention to the rest.
