| Eye to understanding Democrats & racism/hypocrisy?
Recall how many times (and how often)... across your lifetime that either a Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter or Al Gore (southern white Democrats, essentially)... trumpeted the Civil Rights achievements of a USA President that long should have been judged heroic, and judged as one of America's greatest Presidents over the last 50 years (in Lyndon B. Johnson). Even per every MLK Day, LBJ's role & his Civil Rights legislation are overlooked. It cost him the support from Southern Democrats (Segregationists! KKK?) & media that circles/supports the DNC... While the Obama campaign is a watershed moment for the County and for the Democratic Party (-- remember, it's only national representation from black america, was essentially Jesse Jackson and later Al Sharpton for DECADES). So... beyond Hillary using LBJ as an example of getting things done vs. simple talk... when will LBJ be recognized for his BOLD ACTION and his POLITICAL EXECUTION by the DNC, which would not support him for re-election.
Some defend-the-DNC at all cost Democrats would point to the Vietnam War, as why the DNC turned its back on LBJ -- but it was actually ramped-up by the Kennedys... and while RFK had the mantle of "youth" and "achievement" (which was sodered into history with his assasination).. the Southern Dems base punished LBJ collectively, and we wasn't supported for an "unpopular" and bold move.. then.. or now... in history. In fact, anything named after JFK might better be named after LBJ, considering his record on Civil Rights vs. that of the wealthy, Camelot, beloved Presidency of a JFK & RFK that did nearly nothing, in comparison.
The hypocrisy is pandering the South.. as a long-standing (300 years!) base for the Democratic Party -- the Party that OPPOSED... ABE LINCOLN. The base that seceded from the Union.. the base that supported Slavery.. the base that wanted "separate" living & standards, and sought to punish LBJ after the Civil Rights win by Martin Luther King.. I'd like to see Bill Clinton talk about LBJ's role for an hour -- and why the Rebel Flag is still allowed to fly over the Arkansas state offices (then and now), and other States... would LOVE TO HAVE SEEN this topic discussed at the Democratic "debate".
What would happen, if Lyndon Baines Johnson's birthday was declared a National Holiday? ... where today, in 2008.. would the outcry come from most.. the Huckabee/GOP crowd or from the Dem-side of the aisle in the DEEP SOUTH (wouldn't surprise me)...? or, are they essentially the same thing, wearing 2 different hats that STILL need to be overcome, in 2008?
