| AC Unit -- inside unit working - outside not - Need second opinion!!?
We have a 3 yr old Carrier AC unit for our house. About a month ago we woke up during the night without ac. The tech said our breaker blew b/c we needed coolant (he put in 3.5 lbs). It worked for the next week. Then the next weekend we came home from a trip and the AC was off again (we had set it to 81 degrees and it was on 89). The breaker was tripped and so we flipped the breaker back on and it ran for another week. We went on another trip this past weekend and when we got back it was off again, but the breaker wasn't tripped. We called the tech and one of the 220 wires (the white one) had burnt. He replaced the wire and the AC works again, but he said that our compressor is probably bad. We have a 10 Seer and the tech recommended getting a new 13 Seer condenser. The compressor is under warranty if we need to replace it, but I just want to make sure we need to. Could this wire have been what was causing the breaker to trip? Could it be fixed now that the wire is replaced? THANKS!
