Serious question...are Democrats evil or just stupid?

We're already getting taxed to death and they want to raise the federal gas tax another 10 to 40 cents a gallon.

They continually block new domestic oil exploration and drilling. We are sitting on oil (shale) reserves larger than Saudi Arabia's, but they block its extraction.

What are they trying to do to the American people? I truly see no rational reason for what they are doing other than defying what the Republicans want. They don't seem to care how much they are hurting the average American. Our family is barely getting by because of the gas prices. I conclude they are either evil or stupid. What does everyone else think?
