ynotgayle has a spectacular aura about
Are Democrats out of the mainstream can they only win an election if

Republicans screw up? Here is why I ask this question starting with recent history.
Nixon republican-landslide victory over Muskie
Ford republican- pardon Nixon pissed of a lot of Americans lost to Carter in a close election
Reagan republican- landslide victory I think he won all 50 states over Carter
Reagan- landslide victory over Mondale
Bush1 republican-landslide victory over Dukakis
Clinton democrat -slim win over Bush1 take Ross Perot 12% out of the election and Clinton would have lost
Clinton slim win over Dole eliminate Ross Perot again and Clinton loses
Bush11 republican- slim win over Gore even though we had a good economy at the time
Bush11 landslide win over Kerry even with so many Americans againts the war.
As you can see in the last 40 years the only democrat to win the precidency with 50% of the popular vote was Carter and he was a disaster one has to ask oneself are democrats ideals really in step with the average American.

I disagree with your conclusions about Perot (Bush I was unelectable after breaking his No New Taxes pledge), nor would I really consider Clinton/Dole a close election. And 2006 showed you that Dems can win.
