reason I asked was because I saw a survey that said atheists were the most distrused group of people nationwide, this referring to the United States.

Neither. One is in definite need of salvation, the other may need deliverence or other help to change lifestyle. Both still need help from Jesus as we all do. Jesus came for all, so Christians should reach out to all.
