| Why do Democrats feel the need to mischaracterize McCain's "100 years" comment?
Isn't this getting old? Does anyone know what the words "in context" mean? He said we could have troops there for 100 years ... just like we've had troops in Germany for 65 years now, Japan for 65 years, Korea for almost 50 years, etc. I hope we're fortunate enough to have a permanent base in a friendly Iraq 100 years from now. It's too bad that when there are so many REAL issues that could be debated, liberals feel the need to resort to smear campaigns and taking words out of context. And, yes, I realize Republicans do it, too. That's why people have such a low view of politicians in general. If you end up w/ Obama vs. McCain, or Clinton vs. McCain, you will have enough REAL policy differences that you won't need to "make up issues" or mischaracterize statements as has been done with this "100 years" b.s. Those who continue to use it out of context should be ashamed of themselves. And, for what it's worth, this is coming from someone who spent 2 years serving with the 3rd ID in Iraq, and lost my best friend (and other friends) in the war. I would like for our service and my friends' death to not be in vain, which it will be if Obama just yanks all our troops out, ceding Iraq to Al-Qaeda and Shiite militias. talus: whether or not the war was justified, we're there now. at this point, we can't change how it started, but we can end it the right way and in an honorable way for those of us that served. Think First: Take your name's advice. I'm not supplying the context. McCain has explained his statement multiple times. Do you need a transcript of the Larry King interview, or do you just want to continue to push on others your lack of information? ducky - good point about Karl Rove. I have to agree. |

Thank you for your service. I mean that. My dad was a Green Beret in Vietnam. For what it's worth, I'm a Democrat, and I'm all for maintaining a presence in Iraq. Having a base there 100 years from now sounds fine to me. |

I agree. This is clearly taken out of context. I think its dangerous for the country to put a timetable on troop withdrawel, and could cost soldiers lives, anyone knows this. Hillary promising to do that for votes is sickening. |

Shut Up. Why don't you ask McCain 'why did he say that' in the first place ? Americans are sick of this B.S. Iraq war and it just pointless trying to get this through the Republicans' thick heads. They just stubborn, even in the face of clear differences with the American people and the Bush administration. You leave us no other option but to kick out the stupid Conservative Republicans out of the White House. And now you guys are even bigger fools for rally around McCain that wants to continue the same "failed policy" of the Bush administration. Obama 08!! |
