why are social observations important for children in the preschool setting?

So that the teacher can see how the child is interacting with other children and also to gauge (not sure about spelling here) the child's social development.

Also as a side effect of doing an observation on a child's social development you may also notice development in other areas such as motor or language.

Make sure they r playing well together, not fighting, not being mean, DEFINITELY not excluding.

for the teacher to make social observations? ok mhmhmm I did a report on being a pre school teacher you have to make sure they can play well with others or dosnt get violent with others because this could be a problem down the road or they might need a shrink or if there are too many problems it could mean they are mentally handicapped so they have to observe the kids
