My friend invented this game for her kindergarten class. It is called freeze dance and it is a bit like musical chairs without the chairs. Just play dance music and have the kids dance. Every so often, turn off the music and have the kids freeze. The game is hilarious for the teacher because they stop in the silliest positions. You can either just let everyone keep playing or have them be "out" if they move after the music.

My little sister is 3, and loves a lot of learning.SONGS-give them real world songs that repeat something! Laura loves the song: the sweet escape she calls it: Woo Hoo Yee Hoo Song. and Numa Numa: She calls it Mia hee Mia Hoo song! it repeats that phrase many times. for learning, they like colors! dont go to up-ahead, remember their special ed. Most special ed kids like to organize. Get a bunch of paper circles or w.e and make them all diffrent colors and make them sort them by color.

for young special ed children I would play games that involve whole body movements-like grouping based on colors of their shirts, or making shapes with their bodies.

well in the center I use to work in we just to make instruments, even simple one like different clors and sizes of ribons for the kids and would turn on classicial music and just have fun seeing what we could do with them. Or make a game out of it playing simom says. when you call out a name everyone else in the room needs to try to copy what the other one is doing with there ribbon. It is a great way to get them moving, and get engery out and teacher respect and listenting, as well as cordination skills

We did action songs-there's a video with Dave Benson-Phillips doing Makaton (type his name in ebay)-its great because children can sit or stand to join in and the use of makaton supports there communication skills esp those with limited language. The actions can be dance moves too for the more able children.Instruments: have instruments and well known songs they like to sing-this enables al children to join in as you can get instruments for wide range of abilities such as velcro bells that you put on children wrists.Free dance: put 'party music' on or a CD like the ones in Early LEarning Centre and let the chidlren dance freely-they can explore movements, imitate others and you can support children through being invovled, helping them move etc.Did you want non-song type activities too?-Cooking: you may need high adult ratio for this but cooking is a great experience because of the use of the sense to feel, smell and then taste!-Feely boxes-a circle time activitiy where youi pass around different items from a treasure box to feel and play. This will depend on the level of th childrens concerntration and understanding.-Painting: have large table covered with paper-have range of brushes, sponges, trays of paint, glitter etc so children can explore the textures using whatever equipment they can access.
