How about making friendship bracelets?

Or tee shirts with all the kids handprints?

OR paper dolls and writing each kids name on them (the ones all attached)
_____
Friendship
By: Amy, Kindergarten Teacher
Uses Eric Carle's Do You Want to Be My Friend? to teach about friendship.

Objectives:

To teach social skills and how to develop friendships.
Materials:

Book - Do You Want to Be My Friend? by Eric Carle.
Large piece of butcher paper
paints
Plan:

Discuss the meaning of being a friend and what good qualities are in a friend.
Read the story.
Discuss the mouse's search for the perfect friend.
What good qualities were in each friend he found?
Make a friendship rainbow to hang over the entrance way to your door.
Use the kids hand prints in each color.
Talk about what friends the children have made since they have been in school.
What is a good quality about that friend? Why do they like that friend and what activities do they do together?
After the rainbow dries hang it over your door with the saying - A Rainbow of Friendship Hand in Hand.

a great idea for the 1 year old and the 2's is to read sesame street books and talk about how all of them is friends and then make an art project with them. you can make Elmo from a paper plate let the children rip a red paper and glue it all over the paper plate, then cut out the eyes and the noes. you can make the the creatures and hang them at the wall its a very nice project. and for the older children i would do the friendship bracelets.

Have activities that the children can do together that would help them develop friendships through having fun. For example bubbles, balloon play, block play, family play ( plastic food and accessories/ dolls/dressups, trucks and cars for driving through dirt/sand.
All these are fun and the children will develop their own friendships without having to be paired up and forced to play with others.
